Barry G. Haiman, Founder of Affordable Housing Solutions for Florida, Inc., passed away in his home in Hollywood, Florida from Lewy bodies. He was 84 years old. Barry founded AHSF in 1992 in response to Hurricane Andrew. Barry was born in Mobile, Alabama and graduated Vanderbilt University with his BA and briefly attended Vanderbuilt Law before discovering his passion for real estate. Mr. Haiman is a Veteran of the US Army and also served in the Alabama National Guard. He was involved in the March of Dimes and other numerous social causes, has championed civil and women’s rights for many years and was a beloved member of his communities and causes. It has been frequently said that “Barry didn’t know a stranger” as he made friends everywhere he went. You may not know this but he was a cheerleader at Vanderbilt and that sums him up pretty well. An eternal optimist, Barry loved “doing deals” as he called it. And by the time he retired from Affordable in December 2014, he had placed in service over 4000 affordable housing units. His legacy is the nonprofit he founded, AHSF which celebrated 25 years in service to the community in 2017.
